On the way to Houston

At the airport now waiting for a flight to Houston. Not too busy here
for a summer Sunday. Security line wqas very short.

Flight weather looks good, and the temp is about the same as here at FLL
about 91F.

Tropics are not as busy as they have been, still watching a couple of
waves.

I will post more tonight from Houston.

Charlie's Chocolate Factory

Just got in from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and what a great
movie. Yes, it is different from Willy Wonka's but it was so
refreshing.

One of the previews was Corpse Bride which looks like a sequel to
Nightmare Before Christmas, one of my faves of all time. Keep an eye
out for this one.

Emily moves towards the due west

It was only three days ago when we were looking at tropical storm Emily
as a possible threat to south Florida. Now with winds at 110mph we are
pretty much in the clear.

If the system behing Emily developes that one looks as if it will head
NW then north into the open Atlantic without posing threat to land.
First we will see if it developes.

New advisory at 5pm on Emily and an update on our baby after our
doctor's visit. Crowded waiting room so it will be a little while.

Not much change to Emily

Emily did not change much overnight, max winds still at 45mph.

This morning's model runs do show a southward shift of Emily's path,
taking the storm south of PR and between Jamaica and Cuba. The GFDL
differs only by taking Emily to the northern coast of Cuba in day 5.

New info will be issued by the NHC at 11am.

Hello Emily

That is tropical storm Emily. This is the fifth (E) tropical storm of this so-far unusually active season. Like Dennis this one may pose a threat to south Florida. In five days the system is officially forecasted to be in the southern Bahamas, just north of Cuba. I would expect by tomorrow morning south Florida will be in the cone of concern.

This is the time to make sure you are ready for a storm. With this active of a season anyone in a prone area should take the time to prepare themselves. This is what I am going to do tomorrow to make sure we are ready. Having just moved I do not know where everything is yet and what I need.

I will post in the morning any details that develop.

Also my home internet is back up so updates will now be regular :)

Dennis to become season's first hurricane

Sorry for the delay in posting. Still moving in and I still do not have
internet service so all of this is being done on the Sidekick II.

Dennis is out there and the models are in very good agreement taking it
into the eastern Gulf. The latest probs are 13 for MIA and 9 for PBI.
Will keep and eye on those numbers for any drastic change. For now we
are out of the cone so will prepare for some rain and breezy conditions
this weekend. Next package is out at 11am edt and new model runs are
due in shortly. I will post anything interesting.

Stay tuned...
