A new year and a new home for my blog. I am moving the weather blog to here at blogspot.com. This means you can bookmark http://hows-the-weather.blogspot.com for instant access.

The long over due web redesign is underway so please check the main website for hopefully positive changes.

Gordon

Just as I posted the previous information recon just found 45 mph winds
and a pressure of 1005. Gordon should be announced at 5pm.

TD7 Stengthens, Florence Does Not

TD7 is looking better today and recon just reported 1006mb pressure and
max winds at flight level of about 35mph. There is a good chance it
will be upgraded at 5pm.

Another tropical wave just rolled off of Africa and conditions look
pretty good for developemnt over the next 2 days. Though the way this
season has been behaving I would not bet on it. It seems that when
conditions are good for development storms idle in intensity or weaken
(ie. Ernesto and Florence). I wil continue to monitor so please check
back.

BTW, TD7 still poses no threat to the US since most models are in
agreement that it will turn back out to sea.

6.0 Earthquake and TD7

About 250 miles off the west coast of Florida a rare 6.0 earthquake
shook the Gulf of Mexico and portions of the SE US. No damage or
injuries reported and the quake was not strong enough to create a
tsunami. This tremor occured in the same location as a 5.2 quake in
February. Here I am in Orlando when this happened and I did not feel a
thing.

TD7 will be announced tonight with an 11pm advisory. Like hurricane
Florence this system should turn north in the coming days and not affect
the US.

Speaking of Florence the latest recon report indicates that she is still
a cat.1 with no change in pressure. Please check back for further
updates on these systems.

TD6 Advisory Soon

The first advisory on the new depeession will be issued by NHC within
the hour.

Cone Shift

Recon found Ernesto northeast and slightly stronger than the 2PM
update. This has caused the cone to shift putting parts of Florida in
the extended cone.

As of 5PM Miami probabilities are 29/8/4 for the following winds
34/50/64 through Thursday afternoon.

I will update when the models update in a bit.

Ernesto

As expected TD5 will be upgraded to TS Ernesto. The plane out there now
has found winds of almost 45mph and a pressure of 1004mb.

TD5 or TS

First advisory will be issued at 5PM. Max winds are just below TS
strength and there is still time for an observation to be made simce the
recon plane is still flying through the storm.
